Veiner was an ardent Zionist and contributed generously to civic causes.
      The Medicine Hat Jewish community peaked in the mid-50's at 57 families. In 1955 the synagogue was renovated and rededicated. The Jewish population has declined since then, but the remaining families continue to use the building and maintain a vigorous Jewish communal life.


 
      The program for the 1955 synagogue rededication noted participation by the following community leaders, many of whom belonged to pioneering families: Lou Kohn, B. Maltin, J. Levinson, J. Palansky, Jack Conn, H.B. Freedman, Leo Lewis, H. Wise, S. Krasnoff and Joe Levinson, H. Gibbs was listed as being recently deceased. The Rabbi was L. Gold, Lou Belzberg and Manny Raber, although not on the program, are also known to have been active communial leaders at the time.
