Simon and Tillie (nee Block) Shulman, standing with their daughter Emily, and Simon's parents Israel and Asna Shulman (seated). Tillie Block left Calgary in 1915 to visit relatives in Chicago. While there she met and married Simon Shulman, a 22-year-old tailor from Kruje, Russia, who had moved to Chicago four years earlier. In 1917 the young family moved to Calgary and settled into a home on 4th Avenue E.
