Sam Davis - c. 1925
Sam Davis came to Toronto alone at age 12.
In 1919 he returned to the Ukraine and
brought back his mother, three sisters and a
brother. As a traveller selling clothing, he
came to Calgary in 1923, spotted a beautiful
woman (Edith), followed her home, and
asked to meet her. Her father Yale Shapiro
complied, and Sam and Edith were married
shortly after this portrait was taken.
