The Jewish Historical Society of Southern Alberta (JHSSA) is dedicated to recording, preserving and presenting the history of Southern Alberta’s Jews and the communities they built. The JHSSA collects personal and organizational archival documents, family histories, oral histories, cemetery records and photographs.
Founded in 1990 the JHSSA is an independent not-for-profit organization sustained through membership fees, donations, grants and bequests. JHSSA serves as an important resource for students, historians, genealogists and many others seeking more information about their roots and about the Jewish communities of this area.
Education is a vital part of the JHSSA mandate. We provide classroom resources, present public programs, mount displays, answer research questions, and annually participate in Historic Calgary Week. The JHSSA archival holdings are open to researchers and are the key resources for most of our programs.
