Mr. Jaffe arrived in Calgary in 1912 and was best known as the founder of Jaffe's Books and Music Store. He was a longtime President of the Calgary Hebrew School (Talmud Torah).

Rose was an active community worker, a founding member of the Ladies' Aid Society and its President when it became Calgary's first Hadassah chapter. Colourful Rose Jaffe was known for her prize-winning hand painted china, and creation of special hats and clothes.
