This lecture will present a historical overview of the Sephardi experience in Israel, from the Sephardi intellectuals of pre-State Israel to their transformation into “Mizrahim”, including their experience of immigration and their political organization.
Dr. Cohen’s presentation for JHSSA is part of a mini lecture series. CHW Calgary will host the second instalment on Zoom on Tuesday February 16th at 7:30pm.
Women’s movements in Israel: the Mizrahi feminist struggle and its context
Her CHW lecture will analyze the specificities of Sephardi/Mizrahi feminist discourses and movements and their place within the larger context of Israeli women’s movements. Angy will discuss different kinds of religious and secular feminisms in Israel and the experience and contribution of Sephardi/Mizrahi women to social justice and equality.
