Quarantine: Keep Out!
Monday July 26, 2021

Heritage Park- Outdoor event

Based on true events during the “Spanish Flu” pandemic of 1918-1920, author Trudy Cowan will bring history to life for students in grades 3 to 7. An ill woman’s children try to help Papa keep everything going on their dry prairie homestead while Mama is away, isolated in the little synagogue, now in Heritage Park. We’ll talk about families, cultures, medicine and pulling together in difficult times. The book “QUARANTINE: Keep Out!” by Trudy Cowan will be available for purchase, $15.00. This program is in co-operation with Chinook Country Historical Society, Jewish Historical Society of Southern Alberta and Heritage Park. Limited Capacity. To register: Please call 403-268-8500

Reinach Avenue: Calgary’s Forgotten Jewish Street
Wednesday July 28, 2021
7:00 – 8:30 pm
Online Program

Known as Reinach Avenue from 1884–1904, 4 Avenue South was likely the only road in Calgary’s history with a Jewish namesake – Baron Jacques de Reinach, a French-German banker and a director of the CPR. Join Harry Sanders as he leads us in a rediscovery of its forgotten Jewish history, which includes the Calgary Public Market, the Summit Hotel, James Short School, and blocks of family homes. This program is presented in co-operation with Chinook Country Historical Society, Jewish Historical Society of Southern Alberta and Calgary Public Library.
