This quote from the Historic Sites and Monuments Board’s plaque aptly describes the Stephen Avenue National Historic Site. New development plans for the 100 West block, where the plaque is located, affect the future of 15 heritage buildings on 7 Avenue and Stephen Avenue as well as the back alley between them. Harry Sanders shares their stories and their many Jewish connections, including architect Harold Hanen’s 1980sera plan for Stephen Square. Presented as part of Historic Calgary Week, on behalf of the Jewish Historical Society of Southern Alberta.
